A day after a constable shot himself dead, the city police on Monday issued a statement rubbishing media reports that Kanu Baria was repeatedly denied leave, which might have forced him to take the extreme step.
The statement said that Baria, badge number 2419 of F-5 company of the police headquarters, had sought four days leave from March 14 to 17 to attend the marriage of his nephew, which was sanctioned.
Baria reported back to duty on March 17,after which he did not ask for any leave,it said, adding that an inquiry was on to find the reasons behind his suicide.
Meanwhile, the Madhavpura police said that Barias family has not given any possible reason that might have drove him to
suicide.
The investigators suspect financial problems could be behind the incident. His wallet in the uniform was empty while only Rs 500 was found in his house. Even in his bank account there is not much savings, said inspector S G Parmar.
