Vimal ChudasamaCongress MLA from Gujarat’s Somnath constituency, Vimal Chudasama, was evicted from Gujarat Assembly on Friday after he rushed to the Well of the House while raising allegedly unresolved issues in his constituency.
The legislator was escorted out of the Assembly by sergeants after Speaker Shankar Chaudhary ordered his eviction for squatting inside the Well and displaying a poster with a message critical of the government.
After the Question Hour, Chudasama, without seeking the Speaker’s consent, got up and started speaking on the issue.
Despite the Speaker asking him to obey rules and seek permission before raising any issue, the two-time MLA continued speaking and rushed into the Well where he sat down as a mark of protest.
The Speaker then ordered the sergeants to “respectfully evict” Chudasama from the House.
As Chudasama was evicted, Congress Legislative Party leader Amit Chavda tried to explain the MLA’s point. Stating that Chudasama could have come to meet him in his chamber in person, the Speaker said, “The method (adopted by the MLA) to raise his issue was not proper.”
Subsequently, BJP MLA Jitu Vaghani demanded to expunge Chudasama’s statements in the House.
Later, Chudasama addressed the media over the issue and expressed the grievances he raised in the Assembly.
Following this, Vaghani raised the issue again in the House, stating that Chudasama had given ‘byte’ on what happened in the House, which was expunged from the record, to the media. And doing so, Vaghani said, was against the rules of the Assembly.
Speaker Chaudhary then gave a ruling over the matter and said that Chudasama ignored his instructions and created hurdles in the proceedings of the House.
The Speaker further said that the member cannot speak with the media about something which has been expunged from the records of the House.
If this has happened then, the Speaker said, it is very serious. He then asked all the members to take note that such an act could result in action as per rules in future.
