Cong plans drive to create awareness on food security

The state Congress will organise rallies and other programmes in 37 district centres and in 235 talukas from July 15 to August 15 to create awareness among the masses about the Food Security Act

The state Congress will organise rallies and other programmes in 37 district centres and in 235 talukas from July 15 to August 15 to create awareness among the masses about the Food Security Act. The Congress is projecting the food security programme as game changer and party chief Sonia Gandhi has called a meeting of its chief ministers and PCC chiefs Saturday in New Delhi to discuss the issue. The party had promised to bring a food security law during 2009 Lok Sabha poll. Party’s state spokesperson Manish Doshi said the month-long campaigning was aimed at creating awareness about Food Security Act brought by the Centre,giving right to over 82 crore people to get 5 kg of foodgrain per month at Rs 1-3 per kg.
