Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Thursday demanded a judicial probe into the sale of large quantity of school textbooks in Bhavnagar to a scrap dealer a day earlier.
GPCC spokesperson Manish Doshi said that there was shortage of textbooks, and irresponsible offcials were busy disposing of textbooks as waste materials.
He said this indicated the callousness of the education department authorities.
The BJP government organised praveshotsava and gunotsava schemes, but failed to manage even distribution of books to the students. They were instead sold as waste material, said Doshi.
He said the Centre had provided the money for printing of these books under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
