Both the BJP and the Congress claimed having trounced each other in the recently concluded village panchayat elections which are not fought on party symbols.
Interestingly, both of rival parties claim to have captured 70 per cent of the 8,247 panchayats that went to polls on December 29. Not done, both claimed that the 2,124 panchayats that chose Samras (unanimously appointing sarpanch and members) actually had their candidates.
The non-EVM,manually conducted polls saw a lot of time lost on counting of votes on December 31,giving rise to rumours and speculation.
State BJP president R C Faldu attributed the unprecedented rout of the Congress to the 10 years of good governance under Chief Minister Narendra Modi. On the other hand,Congress leaders credited the Congress victory on 70 per cent of the seats to the Central governments welfare schemes like National Rural Health Mission,MNREGA,Mid-Day Meals and others like 108 ambulance service and rural electrification.
While the Congress claims victory in 1,400 of 2,124 panchayats that went Samras, the BJP says it has won all Samras panchayats.
Rubbishing the Congress claims, state BJP vice president Kaushik Patel said,We will come out with figures tomorrow when counting is complete. We dont believe in making false claims but it is certain that BJP will rout the Congress.
