City hospitals are gearing up to attend to cases of manja (glass-coated kite strings) injuries as the number of such cases is on the rise ahead of Uttarayan.
We received one case and treated it immediately. More cases will come on January 13,14 and 15. We have instructed doctors to take care of such cases during these three days, said Dr D S Chandana,the Resident Medical Doctor (RMO) at the V S Hospital.
The Shardaben Hospital had received around 60 cases last year and conducted two micro-surgeries. During Uttarayan,we keep our plastic surgeons and orthopaedic doctors ready. This year,the hospital has not received any such case. But we are expecting cases during the festival, said Dr Nimish Pandya,Medical Superintendent,Shardaben Hospital.
At L G Hospital in the Maninagar area,on an average,two cases of manja injuries are treated daily during the festival. The number of cases increases during January 13,14 and 15, said Dr R G Surela,Medical Superintendent,L G Hospital.
Last year,the 108 emergency services of GVK EMRI had received 2,808 Uttarayan related emergencies on January 14,while 2,407 cases were registered on January 15 across the state.
Ahmedabad had reported 501 emergency cases on January 14,followed by Vadodara with 261 cases,Surat with 210 cases and Rajkot with 153 cases. The highest number of injuries were in the age group of 11 to 20 years.
