Man held, cannabis plants seized from his farm in Gujarat: Police

A 67-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly being in possession of 20 cannabis plants worth around Rs 9.75 lakh, grown in the paddy fields in his farm in Khapariya village of Dahod taluka, police said on Monday.

Police identified the arrested accused as Pania Ratna Amliyar.

A team of police and Dahod district Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel reached the village after a tip-off and found that the farm, located in Chachla Faliya in Khapariya had cannabis plantation in the midst of paddy.

Police said that the total weight of the stash is nearly 19.5 kg. Amliyar has been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act).

This is among several NDPS cases registered by Dahod district police against farmers cultivating cannabis in fields in remote locations. Over the past year, the Dahod district police has lodged at least four FIRs and seized marijuana plants worth around Rs 2.6 crore from the district. Of this, a major raid was carried out by the Dahod district police in February this year, using Artificial Intelligence and drones to track down such farms.
