CA final: Ahmedabad’s Riya Shah shines with all-India rank 2

First CA in the family, Riya told The Indian Express that she decided to choose this path when she was in Class 11.

Riya Kunjankumar Shah (22) from Ahmedabad secured the all-India second rank in the Chartered Accountant exam results announced by the Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) Friday.

Naishad Vaid from Vadodara secured All-India Rank (AIR) 9th in the results. Shah secured 83.50 per cent (501 marks) in the CA final exam conducted in November this year.

A student of B Com (Honours) at GLS University in Ahmedabad, Riya has improved upon her rank in the CA intermediate exam. “In the intermediate, I secured 42nd AIR,” she said.

The intermediate results were declared in January 2022 for the exam held in November 2021.

First CA in the family, Riya told The Indian Express that she decided to choose this path when she was in Class 11. “Since I was not interested in Science subjects, I opted for Commerce in Class 11. I developed a liking for Statistics and Accounts subjects. I got interested in CA as it is the most esteemed profession in the Commerce stream,” she added.

Shah’s father works as an administrator in NHL Municipal Medical College while her mother is a homemaker. Her elder brother is pursuing his studies in Canada.

A strict study routine is what Riya followed since January this year. “I would follow a strict schedule of waking up at 4 am and sleeping at 8 pm. The routine went on till November exams.”

Sharing her message for other aspirants, Riya said being consistent for a long period of time, where one needs to study for 10-12 hours everyday, was the key.

CA Sunil Sanghvi, Vice Chairman, Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC (Western India Regional Council) of ICAI, said, “In CA Final, Ahmedabad’s result in both groups stands at 15.49 per cent while India’s result is 13.44 per cent. In CA Final from Ahmedabad, 134 out of 865 passed in both groups (15.49 per cent). In Group 1, 168 out of 1032 passed (16.28 per cent) while in Group 2, 66 out of 397 passed (16.62 per cent).”
