Leading Ahmedabad-based builder Pravin Kotak on Monday moved an anticipatory bail petition in connection with the Dummy Writers Scam,in the Ahmedabad Sessions Court. The court is expected to hear the petition on Tuesday.
Kotaks son Harsh is one of the two students found using dummy writers while pretending an orthopaedic injury in the Class XII science stream board examinations at the AG Teachers School in the Gujarat University area in 2008. The other accused student is Komal, daughter of city-based builder Sanjay Patel.
Kotaks lawyer Sanjay Thakkar said his client moved the anticipatory bail application in the Sessions Court apprehending arrest by the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB). He added that Kotak has been co-operating with the investigating agency and has so far got his statement recorded twice.
The concerned district education officer had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Gujarat University police station.
Initially, the police had closed the case after filing a summary report. Later, acting on a petition filed by an executive council member of Gujarat University, the Gujarat High Court had called the investigation insufficient and had asked the investigating officer to further probe the case. The case was later handed over to DCB.
The DCB recently arrested Muktak Kapadia, trustee of HB Kapadia School, and government doctor Jatin Sanandia,in connection with the case. Kapadia has been accused of conspiracy in the scam, while Sanandia is accused of providing a fake medical certificate to Harsh. The two accused had moved for bail in the Metropolitan Court, which was rejected on Monday.
