BJP, Independent MLAs raise anganwadis issue

Some of the BJP and Independent MLAs Friday highlighted in the Assembly the dilapidated state of schools and anaganwadis in their respective constituencies and sought intervention of the state government.

“In Sector-19 in Gandhinagar city, the lone school for HIV-infected male children in Gujarat state is in a dilapidated state and needs renovation,” said Rita Patel, BJP MLA from Gandhinagar North Assembly constituency which is spread over a large part of the state’s capital. Patel was speaking after Congress MLAs had walked out of the House demanding Jhaveri Commission’s report.

Shiva Gohil, the BJP MLA from Mahuva constituency in Bhavnagar pointed out that panchayats are reluctant to provide plots for constructing anganwadis. “There is a lot of delay and I request the minister to instruct the district collectors fo provide plots of land for this purpose,” he added.

Another BJP MLA Dr Darshana Deshmukh citied three backward villages in Garudeshwar taluka of her tribal assembly constituency of Nandod in South Gujarat and said, “These villages do not have an anganwadi and the villagers have been demanding one. So I request the government to look into the issue at the earliest.” Both Dr Deshmukh and MLA Bhagabhai Barad demanded additional nutritious diet to tackle malnutrition in their respective constituencies.

BJP MLA Keshaji Chauhan too highlighted the condition of anganwadis in his Deodar constituency. “There are a number of anganwadis which are in dilapidated state,” he said demanding appointment of a special officer to monitor the repair works. “There are many buildings where children cannot sit. I have personally inspected and I request the minister to take this issue seriously,” said Chauhan.

Independent MLA, Dhavalsinh Zala pointed out that agencies working on building new anganwadis were not willing to work and request government’s intervention.
