BJP’s Hardik Patel says Gujarat govt ‘withdrew sedition cases’ against 2015 Patidar quota agitators

Dinesh Bambhania, another leading figure in the protests, also claimed that cases were 'withdrawn', thanking the state.

BJP MLA from Viramgam Hardik Patel, who spearheaded the 2015 Patidar quota agitation in Gujarat, thanked the state government for “withdrawing cases, including of sedition” which were registered against youths of the Patidar community during the agitation, including himself.

In a Hindi tweet on X on Friday, Patel said, “The government of (Chief Minister) Bhupendra Patel has withdrawn the serious cases, including the ones on sedition, registered during the Patidar agitation in Gujarat against Patidar community youths including me. On behalf of the community, I thank the BJP government of Gujarat.”

Patel added, “Because of the Patidar agitation, a commission and corporation were formed in Gujarat for non-reserved classes, Yuva Swamlamban Yojana worth Rs 1,000 crore was implemented and the savarnas got a benefit of 10% reservation on an economic basis.”

He said, “I once again thank Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi, Home and Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah, and the Chief Minister of the state Bhupendrabhai Patel from the bottom of my heart.”

A similar tweet was also posted by another leading figure of the Patidar agitation, Dinesh Bambhania, who thanked the Gujarat government for “withdrawing the cases”. Bambhania claimed that the government has withdrawn 14 cases registered against Patidar community youths during the agitation, and posted the list as well.

Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi could not be reached for comments despite multiple attempts by The Indian Express.
