(Representational Photo)A Bharatiya Janata Party corporator from Anand Municipality’s Ward number 6, Dilip Prajapati, was booked on Sunday after a woman filed an FIR accusing him of raping her. Following the FIR, the Anand district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suspended Prajapati from the party’s primary membership.
The latest incident, according to the first information report, occurred late on Saturday night when the victim was alone at home.
Prajapati arrived at her house and raped her before being allegedly caught red-handed by the woman’s husband, the FIR further stated.
While the woman’s husband and neighbours cornered Prajapati, he called up his supporters and a brawl ensued, purported CCTV footage of which were doing the rounds.
According to the FIR, Prajapati first approached the woman in June, knocking at her door on the pretext of checking voter ID details.
After noting down her mobile number, Prajapati began pursuing her, according to the woman’s complaint.
He threatened to send the recording of a conversation between them to her husband and forced himself upon her, the woman told the police.
On November 16, Prajapati allegedly again called the woman and demanded sexual favours, the woman said in her complaint.
When she refused, he allegedly entered their home at night, when her husband and children had stepped out, and raped her, the complaint stated.
Providing more details about the incident, Anand Superintendent of Police GG Jasani said, “The FIR was lodged on Sunday as the incident took place late on Saturday night. There was a ruckus as the supporters of the corporator, who he had called over to rescue him, and the woman’s family members clashed. However, no one was assaulted. The woman has alleged that the accused had raped her more than once. The probe is on. The accused is yet to be apprehended.”
Meanwhile, the district president of the Anand BJP unit, in a letter addressed to Prajapati, said, “As per our information, an FIR has been lodged against you with serious accusations. It is damaging to the party’s reputation and also (amounts to) indiscipline as per party principles. As per the directions of the state president of the party, CR Paatil, you are being suspended from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect.”
