Police arrested a 27-year-old man from Madhubhani in Bihar on Wednesday for the kidnapping,rape and the murder of a minor girl in Makarpura area in the city. The accused was brought back by the police to Vadodara on Friday.
Afreen Pathan (7) was allegedly kidnapped from her house at Indiranagar society in Makarpura on the evening of June 2 and raped and murdered on the same day near Vadsar village in the citys outskirts. The accused,Kapil Mandal,confessed to killing the girl. Her remains were recovered from an isolated area behind the ABB factory where he committed the crime said the police.
Mandal murdered Afreen the day he kidnapped her. He left for Bihar the next day. He killed Afreen after her elder sister refused his advances, Police Commissioner Satish Sharma told reporters.
Afreens family members filed an FIR at the Makarpura police station,a day after she went missing. When Afreens elder sister called Mandal,he denied seeing Afreen but later confessed to have the young girl with him. The city police sent a crime branch squad to Mandals native place in Darbhanga in Bihar to nab him. He was however found hiding at his relatives place at Madhubani in Bihar.
Police have brought back Mandal on transit remand and are carrying out further investigations.
