Bhutan’s King, PM to visit Statue of Unity today

Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay will visit the Statue of Unity (SoU) and Sardar Sarovar Dam in Narmada district Monday, an official release stated on Sunday. This is for the first time that the king and prime minister of a country are visiting the site together, the release added.

According to the schedule, the two dignitaries will arrive at Vadodara airport at 11.15 am. After their welcome at the airport, the two will proceed to Kevadia where they will first visit SoU. They will be apprised about the efforts to unify the country after independence and Sardar Patel’s role in it.

The two will then visit Tent City–I and then visit Sardar Sarovar dam around 3.50 pm. They will be accompanied by Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma.

A meeting was held with the concerned officials of the two districts in which officials of the Union Ministry of External Affairs also remained present.
