Banaskantha’s Masali becomes India’s first border solar village
The project worth Rs 1.16 crore was started with the cooperation of the Revenue Department, UGVCL (Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited), banks, and solar companies.
Masali is home to a population of 800 people.Masali village of Suigam taluka in Banaskantha has become the first border solar village in the country, district authorities said. Home to a population of 800 people, the village is located nearly 40 kilometers from the international Pakistan border.
“Under the Border Development Project, the administration has taken the initiative to make 11 villages of border Vav taluka and six of Suigam taluka, a total of 17 villages, completely solar. As part of this, work has been completed in Masali village,” Banaskantha District Collector Mihir Patel told The Indian Express.
The project worth Rs 1.16 crore was started with the cooperation of the Revenue Department, UGVCL (Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited), banks, and solar companies. The project has been implemented with a subsidy of Rs 59.81 lakh under the PM Suryaghar Yojana, public contribution of Rs 20.52 lakh, and CSR (corporate social responsibility) of Rs 35.67 lakh. In all, 225.5 kilowatts of electricity is received in 119 houses here, which is more than the requirement of every home, district authorities stated.
Sarpanch of Madhpura Masali Group Gram Panchayat Magniram Rawal and village leaders said that the problem of electricity in the village has permanently ended due to solar power. “Now, we have got permanent freedom from paying light bills,” said Rawal. Patel said it is a matter of pride for Banaskantha that Masali has earned the title of the second solar village in the state, after Modhera, and the first in any border area in the country.
