The alleged thief who tried to loot from a Punjab National Bank ATM in the Satellite area last week, and was captured in the CCTV camera footage, reportedly surrendered before the Satellite police late on Friday.
Vishal Jain (26),a resident of Mumbai said he did this to become famous in media. Jain is said to have been in Ahmedabad for the last six months.
Satellite police Inspector M H Vasani said: The youths picture was captured by the CCTV cameras that night. Though he claims he did this because he wanted media attention, his attempt to loot is very clear. He is now only making up a story. He is from a well-to-do family in Mumbai and his father is a businessman. He attempted to loot the ATM twice, which clearly shows his actual intention.
Jain had reportedly tried to loot money from the PNB ATM on Wednesday. According to the police, the security guard at the ATM has said that Jain had tried to break into the ATM once on Tuesday night, and when his attempts failed,he came again in the early hours, but failed again.
The CCTV cameras had captured his physical features very clearly.
Jain has now been remanded in police custody at the Satellite police station. The police have booked him under Sections 380 and 311 of the Indian Penal Code.
