The annual fee of Alpha International School in Ahmedabad’s Gota area which was earlier fixed at Rs 1.40 lakh has been reduced to Rs 36,000 by the Fee Regulation Committee (FRC) for Classes 1 till 3; Rs 41,000 for Classes 4 till 6; Rs 42,000 for Classes 7 and 8 and Rs 45,000 for Class 9 and 10, Gujarat Education Minister Kuber Dindor apprised the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Dindor said that the school was “also directed to return the difference amount to parents who have already paid the fee”.

Dindor was replying to a starred question raised by Jamalpur-Khadia Congress MLA Imran Khedawala on action taken by the state government against private schools for “over charging students by getting their fee approved from the FRC by showing bogus expenses in Ahmedabad zone in last two years”.

Refuting the allegations, the minister stated that no such incident has come to their notice thus no action has been taken against any school. The state government has formed the FRC under the Gujarat Self Financed Schools (Regulation of Fees) Act 2017 to regulate the fees in private schools. Under the Act, fees is charged as per the FRC guidelines in private schools. The private schools present the fee decided before the FRC where after scrutiny it is approved or disapproved with modifications, the minister informed.
