A city bus was gutted in a fire that broke out after the vehicle collided with another bus on the busy Nehru Bridge here on Thursday afternoon. The collision took place when driver of the bus going ahead applied brakes suddenly to save a bike rider coming from the wrong side.
The incident left five persons injured, including drivers of the two buses,a passenger and a couple of two-wheeler riders. The injured were taken to the V S Hospital where they were discharged after primary treatment for minor injuries.
The buses involved in the accident were plying on route numbers 31 (Vaishali Township-Meghaninagar) and 33/1.
Transport manager Arjav Shah said the AMC has decided to have all the Tata and Ashok Leyland buses checked with their technical teams for specific fault because a Tata bus was burnt on the S G Highway a month ago.
We have taken the incident very seriously and will call in representatives of Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland and ask them to check safety features of all the 170 Tata buses and 272 Ashok Leyland buses used by AMTS, he said.
Shah added that an explanation would be sought from Tata Motors as to how the mishap could take place. Short circuit in the bus wiring is believed to be the reason for fire,he said.
