Air Force pilot dies after fighter jet crashes in Gujarat’s Jamnagar

“An IAF Jaguar two seater aircraft airborne from Jamnagar Airfield crashed during a night mission. The pilots faced a technical malfunction and initiated ejection, avoiding harm to airfield and local population. Unfortunately, one pilot succumbed to his injuries, while the other is receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Jamnagar,” the IAF posted on social media platform X.

“IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” it added.

The Jaguar fighter jet was on a training mission when it crashed. The crash took place around 10 pm following which a large convoy of police, emergency staff and civic administration officials rushed to the village.

The two-seater variant of the Jaguar fighter aircraft, which the police said was on a night sortie, crashed in the open field about 18 km from Jamnagar city just off the Kalavad highway.

Speaking to The Indian Express on Wednesday night, Jamnagar Collector KB Thakkar had said: “There were no civilian casualties in the aircraft crash as it has taken place in an open ground in Suvarda village.”
