The case of alleged rape of two sisters by Asaram and his son Narayan Sai was transferred to Ahmedabad on Monday.
The victims are residents of Surat. The FIR was registered at Jehangirpura police station in Surat. Asaram and Narayan Sai were charged with rape,sexual assault,unnatural sex,unlawful confinement,threatening and criminal conspiracy under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Confirming the transfer of the case,DCP Zone II M L Ninama said,The case had first reached the Police Commissioners office and now it would be probed by Chandkheda police station. A team of police officials also visited Asarams Motera ashram.
The Chandkheda police are gearing up to question Sai. They may seek transfer of Asaram from Jodhpur to Ahmedabad for questioning.
The Ahmedabad Police have formed a committee to probe the case under Sector I Joint CP J K Bhatt with six police inspectors and a women police (crime branch) inspector,Divya Ravia.
According to the case,two sisters of Surat,who had joined his ashrams,were repeatedly raped between 2001 and 2007 by Asaram and his son at different ashrams.
Meanwhile,the parents of Dipesh and Abhishek Vaghela,who were found dead five years ago under mysterious conditions,sat on a dharna at the Income Tax Circle here on Monday demanding the arrest of Sai. The protesters carried pamphlets saying,Asaram ashram ma Dipesh-Abhishek ni manavbali (Dipesh,Abhishek were sacrificed at Asarams ashram).
Dipeshs father Shankar Vaghela said,Since five years we are fighting for justice but nothing has happened so far. Asaram and his son were till recently safely and happily living in Ahmedabad while the police were claiming that they had nothing to prove. Asaram has paid for his sins in Jodhpur. We want justice to prevail in this case too.
Dipesh and Abhishek were studying at Motera ashram and had gone missing mysteriously in July 2008. Later,their bodies were found with body parts missing. The state CID (Crime) had chargesheeted seven persons belonging to the ashram,but no one was arrested.
Vaghela said,The D K Trivedi Commission submitted a report to the government,but the contents of the report were not disclosed. The report should be made public.
