Ahmedabad One mall’s KFC sealed, water unfit for drinking, says AMC
AMC’s Deputy Health Officer Mehul Acharya said the civic body had received online complaints regarding the quality of the food and drinking water at the eatery.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday sealed a KFC eating outlet at Ahmedabad One mall after drinking water was found unfit for consumption, officials said.
The RO drinking water sample from KFC was found to be unfit for drinking as coliform and fecal coliform bacteria levels were found to be much higher than the permissible levels.
AMC’s Deputy Health Officer Mehul Acharya said the civic body had received online complaints regarding the quality of the food and drinking water at the eatery.
As a follow-up measure, AMC took samples from KFC on May 29, which were sent for examination to the central laboratory, he added.
“There are three eateries in the mall — KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell — which have their own RO units for drinking water supply. Other eating outlets at the Food Court use a common RO unit. We took three water samples. One was of the potable water sample from the common RO unit of the Food Court. The Food Court water sample was found to be fit for drinking. The second sample was the groundwater sample used for non-drinking purposes and the third was that of KFC,” said Acharya.
In a statement issued by KFC Company on the closure of its Ahmedabad One Mall Outlet, it stated, “At KFC India, we follow stringent quality checks & processes to ensure that everything served at all our restaurants is safe for consumption. Relevant teams at our franchise partner’s end are cooperating with the concerned authorities towards resolution of this matter. We would like to assure our customers that we’re committed to providing the highest level of food safety. All water used for food preparation across all our restaurants is mandated to go through reverse osmosis, followed by UV light for filtration. RO water is tested twice as per IS10500:2012 standard; and water samples from our restaurants are periodically tested from NABL accredited labs.”
