GMRCL, with its main objective to implement, operate and maintain Metro projects in the state, is currently implementing Phase I of the project in Ahmedabad, Phase II connecting Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, as well as Surat Metro Phase I.During 2022-23, revenue from Ahmedabad Metro operations rose to Rs 1174.38 lakh as against Rs 21.86 lakh the previous year, stated the 13th annual report of Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited, tabled in the state Assembly on Thursday.
The monthwise revenue collection for 2022-23 shows the highest revenue collected in October 2022, when it peaked to Rs 2.51 crore, followed by Rs 2.03 crore last March. “GMRCL is confident that the ridership will further rise with increase in number of train trips and extended hours of operations. The management is making constant efforts to make Ahmedabad Metro the most preferred public transport of the city,” the report stated.
Metro operations were thrown open for the people of Ahmedabad on October 2, 2022. During the first half of 2022-23, GMRCL — a 50:50 special purpose vehicle of the Union and Gujarat governments — earned revenue from operating on six stations under Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-I. In the second half, the revenue figures witnessed a steady increase, especially after the inauguration of Phase I of the project in September, 2022. The ridership figures in the second half of 2022-23 saw an upward trend, especially during festive seasons and holidays.
