Ahmedabad: Bajrang Dal, VHP members storm Easter event, counter complaints filed
A video of the workers at the hall, wielding sticks and chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans, surfaced on the social media later during the day

A group of Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) members stormed an Easter congregation at a private hall in Ahmedabad city on Sunday morning, alleging religious conversions were taking place there.
A video of the workers at the hall, wielding sticks and chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans, surfaced on social media later in the day.
Police said the workers alleged that religious conversions were taking place at the event and sought to know from the gathering how many of them were Hindus.
Police have received counter-complaints — from a local Bajrang Dal representative and a member of the Christian community — which they are probing.
Inspector P N Zinzuvadia of Odhav police station said the incident happened in the morning in Odhav area when around 100 Christian community members were attending an Easter event.
The police officer said that soon after the Bajrang Dal and VHP workers barged into the hall, police were called to the spot and representatives of both sides were taken to the police station.
Inspector Zinzuvadia said Darshan Joshi, a local Bajrang Dal member, has given an application to probe the “religious conversion” although they themselves did not find any evidence of the same at the event.
From the Christian side, one Emanuel Amaydas submitted a complaint against 10-15 unidentified youths who barged into the hall.
Zinzuvadia said that they are probing the complaints and appropriate action will be taken after inquiry.
