The CBI on Wednesday questioned additional DGP Geetha Johri at her office in Gandhinagar in connection with the encounter killings of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his aide Tulsriam Prajapati.

Johri, who now heads Gujarat Police Housing Corporation (GPHC),had earlier probed the Sohrabuddin case as an IG (CID) in 2006 and submitted nine action taken reports in the Supreme Court.

The IPS officer had failed to reach the CBI office in Gandhinagar for questioning for the past two days.

CBI sources said a team from the agency reached her house at Tulsi Row House at Jodhpur Crossroads on Wednesday afternoon but she insisted she should would talk only in her office in Gandhinagar.

Accordingly, the interview was conducted at her office in the evening. “I have given my statements to the CBI. I am still on leave but I came down specially for this,” Johri said.

Though CBI sources claimed that retired additional DGP O P Mathur, who headed CID in 2006 and was Johri’s superior, was also present when the team questioned her,Johri denied the same. “It is a rumour. He was not there,” the police officer said.

Mathur himself was questioned by the CBI a few days ago.

According to the CBI’s chargesheet in the Sohrabuddin encounter case,Johri had claimed she was “under pressure” while investigating the case.

Also,in her interim report filed before the Supreme Court in 2007,Johri had said that the third person travelling with Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi was one Kalammudin and not Tulsriam Prajapati.

Sheikh,Kausar Bi and another person, believed to be Prajapati, were picked up by Gujarat Police from a Sangli-bound bus in Andhra Pradesh in 2005. Sheikh and Kausar Bi were later killed.

A year later,Prajapati was killed in an encounter.

Meanwhile, the CBI is likely to submit a status report in the 2006 Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
