Director General of Police S S Khandwawala said on Monday that adequate security measures will be in place for the forthcoming ODI between India and South Africa here on February 27.
There were some threats of terrorist attacks during the cricket match. We had sent our team to Jaipur to see the security arrangements there. We will ensure that the match is conducted safely, he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar in Gandhinagar. He said,based on the inputs from Jaipur,his department has updated the security teams.
The ODI schedule coincides with Holi which falls on February 28. With regard to the security during the festival,the DGP said: We have seen that in the last few years we have been able to celebrate festivals safely in Gujarat. We have intensified checking in the city. I hope that with these precautions in place,the festival and the match will pass off peacefully .
Meanwhile,the Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police has issued a notification on the changes in the traffic arrangements during the ODI match.
According to a notification,vehicles coming from the Power House towards the Sardar Patel International Stadium at Motera will have to take the Janpath Three Roads. Other vehicles from the Power House will take the Janpath Three Roads and divert to Visat Three Roads to go to Gandhinagar. No vehicle will be allowed to go from Motera Stadium to Janpath Three Roads till the match is on.
Vehicles from the Tapovan Circle towards the stadium will be allowed to come till 1pm. Later,they will be diverted to Visat Three Roads to reach Gandhinagar or the stadium. The vehicles can pass freely in the area after the match.
