The cyber crime wing of the city police has now got its own newly built two-storied building beside the Gaekwad Haveli in Jamalpur, the imposing fortress built in 1734 that houses Detection of Crime Branch in Ahmedabad.

The new building will have a dedicated records room with a customised software to store detailed data on all history-sheeters and cases across Gujarat that can be accessed by the rest of the state police. The cyber crime wing has been feeding data in this software and developing the data base for the last eight months. The database can be accessed by any investigating officer by just entering a few key words.

The Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar already has a State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) and State CID (Crime),which have the hard copies of this data. However, the new set-up for the crime branch will cut time in crime detection. The DCB recently received sophisticated cyber crime detection softwares and devices like EnCase for computer forensics, internet log analysis and XRX mobile forensics for which the state government gave Rs 30 lakh.
