6 districts set to benefit with announcement of Surat Economic Region
In all, 56 projects have been conceived, which will boost industry, tourism, road network and infrastructural facilities.

The state Budget announced on Thursday talked about ensuring world-class development of Surat and neighbouring districts with the development of Surat Economic Region (SER). These districts include Bharuch, Valsad, Navsari, Tapi and Dang.

“To transform Gujarat into a developed and prosperous state, six growth hubs including Surat Economic Region (SER) will be developed. For this, Regional Economic Plans for Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Coastal Saurashtra region and Kutch, wherein all remaining districts will be included, are being prepared to facilitate the comprehensive and balanced economic development of the state,” Finance Minister Kanu Desai said.
NITI Aayog has chosen Surat, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Visakhapatnam for its Growth Hub (G-HUB) programme to boost their economic growth.
As per the Social Economic Review 2025-25, approximately 1.5 crore people residing in SER areas contribute US$ 72 billion (25%) to Gujarat’s GDP.
