More than 55,000 policemen will be given CPR (Cardiopul-monary Resuscitation) training at 51 sites across the state in a government initiative that kicks off Sunday, Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of State- Home, Industries, Transport, Youth & Sports, announced at a press conference on Saturday.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will launch the training initiative at Ahmedabad’s Sola Civil Hospital. The police personnel will also register for organ donation.
“With the Chief Minister’s guidance,” Sanghavi told reporters, “the intention is to increase the knowledge about CPR in the state”. Sanghavi also confirmed to The Indian Express that bus conductors and drivers will be next in line for the training. He said the training will not affect the daily functioning of police
After the pandemic, he added, death rate due to heart attacks at a young age has increased. It takes 5-10 minutes to call 108 in such an eventuality.
The patient dies if the blood doesn’t reach the brain during the timeframe. CPR training is very important to prevent that, the minister underlined.
