43% jump in tourists visiting state during Diwali break: Gujarat govt

As per the data shared by the government, the footfall recorded at Dwarka (13 lakh), Ambaji (12 lakh), Pavagadh (8.92 lakh), and Somnath (8.66 lakh) was among the top in the list of 16 most visited spots.

Gujarat saw a 43% rise in the number of tourists visiting 16 popular destinations in the state during Diwali vacation this year, with a total of 61.7 lakh visitors as compared to 43 lakh tourists in 2023 during the same period.

Tourists, however, preferred places of religious worship for Diwali vacations over other tourist spots in the state, as per the data released by the Gujarat government on Monday.

While Dwarka Temple grossed highest footfall with over 13 lakh tourists, the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar (formerly Kevadia) recorded 4.90 lakh tourists, falling behind the Kalika Mata temple on Pavagadh Hills that saw a footfall of 8.9 lakh devotees.

The Gujarat government said that during the 15 days of Diwali vacations, “…places of worship and popular tourist spots in Gujarat, such as Statue of Unity, Atal Bridge, Riverfront flower park, Kankaria Lake, Pavagadh Temple, Ambaji Temple, Girnar Ropeway, Science City, Vadnagar, Somnath temple, Dwarka temple, Nadabet, Modhera Sun Temple, Smrutivan, Gir, Devaliya as well as Dandi memorial saw a huge turnout of tourists…”

As per the data shared by the government, the footfall recorded at Dwarka (13 lakh), Ambaji (12 lakh), Pavagadh (8.92 lakh), and Somnath (8.66 lakh) was among the top in the list of 16 most visited spots.

This was followed by Kankaria Lake with 5.95 lakh tourists and Statue of Unity at 4.90 lakh tourists in the 15 days of Diwali vacation. The popular Rann Utsav in Kutch attracted 7.42 lakh tourists in 2023-24. The festival has begun this year, attracting domestic and international tourists, the release further said.

While Atal Bridge in Ahmedabad attracted 1.77 lakh tourists, the Girnar ropeway and Science city attracted over a lakh tourists each.
