According to police sources, Raj Modi, a resident of Palanpur village, was practising garba at the community hall of the Surat Municipal Corporation in the city’s Pal area. After finishing the first round of practice, Modi sat on a chair and collapsed suddenly due to chest pain.
Friends rushed him to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. On learning about the incident, Pal police reached the hospital and took down details. They then sent the body to New Civil Hospital for postmortem which was carried out on Thursday. Samples were also sent to the forensic lab for further verification.
A doctor who was part of the team that conducted the autopsy said the death was primarily thought to be caused by a heart attack. “We have sent some samples to the FSL office for further testing,” he said.
Talking to The Indian Express, Modi’s father Dharmesh said, “Raj was my only child. He had completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Surat and was about to fly to London for further studies in December. He was working at the service station of a car showroom.”
“On Wednesday evening, he came home from work and after having dinner went to Pal community hall to practice garba. We are very much saddened by this incident,” he added.
