151 buses added to GSRTC fleet
The new buses purchased at Rs 49.84 crore by the GSRTC include 30 sleeper coaches, 70 luxury buses, and 51 midi buses, purchased at the cost of Rs 12 crore, Rs 24 crore and Rs 13.84 crore respectively.

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has added 151 buses to its fleet, with Minister of State (independent charge) for Transport Harsh Sanghavi and Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel flagging off the new buses at an event in Jamnagar on Sunday.
The new buses purchased at Rs 49.84 crore by the GSRTC include 30 sleeper coaches, 70 luxury buses, and 51 midi buses, purchased at the cost of Rs 12 crore, Rs 24 crore and Rs 13.84 crore respectively.
An official release said that the buses will be allocated to GSRTC’s 16 divisions serving 33 districts of the state. Rajkot division will be allocated 19 buses, the highest number for any division. It will be followed by Junagadh (16 buses) division, Mehsana (15), Palanpur (11), Himmatnagar (11), Godhra (10), Nadiad (9), Ahmedabad (9), Jamnagar (9), Vadodara (8), Valsad (7), Surat (6) ad Amreli (6), Bhuj (5), Bharuch (5) and Bhavnagar (5).
“The induction of 151 new buses to the fleet (of GSRTC) will make travel of residents of the state more convenient.
All these buses are complaint with CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules) norms and are equipped with modern technologies and systems such as emergency exit, vehicle location tracking system, fire extinguishers, panic buttons, etc.,” the release quoted Sanghavi as having said at the event.
Sanghavi also announced that the the GSRTC will construct a new bus depot in Jamnagar. “We are also going to launch a sleeper coach service from Jamnagar to Shreenathji,” the release added.
Mukul Gandhi, vice-chairman and managing director of GSRTC, said that the new buses will replace old buses that will be decommissioned from the public transport service provider’s present fleet of 8,322 buses.
Houses for police
Sanghavi, who is also MoS for Home, also virtually inaugurated 32 housing units for police in Jamjodhpur town of Jamnagar district, constructed at a cost of Rs 6.12 crore. Sanghavi and Patel also handed over cheques of bank loan disbursement to 89 beneficiaries who applied during a loan fair organised by Jamnagar district police.
Stating that Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had launched a campaign against private money lenders charging high interest rates and resorting to coercive means for recovery, Sanghavi said that police have so far organised 3,500 Lok Darbars (public forums to air public grievance) and arrested more than 1,000 private moneylenders.
“Police have saved thousands of families from the vicious cycle of interest on loans. In Jamnagar district also, police have done a commendable job,” Sanghvi said, adding Jamnagar police arrested 69 private money lenders after registering 37 FIRs on the basis of complaints received at 141 Lok Darbars.
