The Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, on Friday honoured its toppers of the academic sessions 2018–2019, 2019–2020, and 2020–2021 at the medals’ distribution ceremony in the law auditorium. As many as 436 toppers and achievers from diverse disciplines of PU received medals and certificates from PU Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig on this occasion. During the medal ceremony, a total of 133 students from the batch 2020-2021 participated, including 37 boys and 96 girls, out of a total of 228. From the batch 2019-2020, 109 students attended the ceremony, comprising 19 boys and 90 girls from a total of 226. From the batch 2018-2019, 111 students were present at the event, with 24 boys and 87 girls out of a total of 235. Additionally, 83 awards were presented from endowment funds, which included 19 boys and 64 girls. The medals and awards of the students who could not be present will be handed over to their respective departments. In her address, Vig stressed the importance of maintaining balance between personal and professional life. She encouraged everyone to work with a clear purpose and mission in life. “Decide what you want to achieve and direct your efforts accordingly,” she added. While referring to the Wall of Fame for distinguished alumni at the PU V-C office, Vig expressed hope that in the next 30–40 years, members of the current batches will feature among those eminent personalities of the university, who served the country as prime ministers, presidents, chief justices, governors, and noted sportspersons. Professor Jagat Bhushan said that this function is not to hand over the medals to the toppers, but to honour their journeys, which must have started with a small step and carried on a path of perseverance to come out as achievers.
