The final saw 3 BRD Indian Air Force forwards making early inroads into the opposition half and their efforts soon paid dividends with Lovedeep scoring the opening goal of the match to hand the team a 1-0 lead with a successful conversion of a penalty corner.A fine display by their forwards guided 3 BRD Indian Air Force team to an emphatic 4-1 win over Sri Guru Gobind Singh Club, Sector 26, in the final of the Chandigarh State Senior Men’s Hockey Championship, which concluded at Sector 42 Sports Complex on the occasion of National Sports Day to commentate birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

Sixteen minutes later, Sumit extended the lead to 2-0 with a field goal before Angadbir Singh scored the opening goal for the Sri Guru Gobind Singh Club in the 25th minute of the match. Vinayak scored the third goal for 3 BRD Indian Air Force team as he scored a field goal in the 39th minute of the final. Dilip then scored the fourth goal for 3 BRD Indian Air Force team in the 46th minute of the match as the team completed the 4-1 win.
The evening also saw Hockey Chandigarh celebrating the National Sports Day with Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora and Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang presiding over the function as chief guest and guest of honour.
“This celebration on National Sports Day symbolises the rich tradition of hockey. Sports teach us discipline, hard work, and team spirit. I am delighted to see Chandigarh playing an important role in taking hockey to new heights,” said Arora while addressing the hockey players. Both Arora and Kang then also announced Rs 10 lakh each for the promotion of sports to Hockey Chandigarh in the presence of Hockey Chandigarh president Karan Gilhotra and Hockey Chandigarh senior vice-president Pushvinderjit Singh, and Hockey Chandigarh vice-president Anil Vohra. Chandigarh director sports Sorabh Kumar Arora too was present on the occasion.
“Hockey is India’s national game, and tournaments like these play a vital role in inspiring the younger generation towards sports. The energy and passion of the players make me confident that the future of Indian sports is very bright,” Kang said.
