Razorpay has entered into a partnership with UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) to process payments for online Aadhaar services. The UIDAI allows Aadhaar holders to update their Aadhaar data - like names, and addresses - online and charges a fee of Rs.50 for these services. It is these transactions that Razorpay will support with its payment gateway. The UIDAI website currently handles over 80,000 such transactions per day and there was a need for a robust payment solution to ensure high success rates while handling such a large volume of transactions. The Razorpay tie-up will enable citizens accessing online Aadhaar services to enjoy a seamless secure payment experience. It is understood that the Razorpay-UIDAI partnership went live a couple of months ago, and was facilitated by Canara Bank. It is estimated that Razorpay will eventually support over 70% of the total daily transactions on the UIDAI portal. The tie-up has already proven helpful for the UIDAI, with higher success rates and increased ease of use. For Razorpay, the partnership will enable it to take its technical capabilities to a wider audience. A Razorpay spokesperson said, "The partnership between Razorpay and UIDAI is a positive step towards providing citizens across the country with a seamless secure payment experience while accessing online Aadhaar services. With the ability to handle a large volume of transactions and provide high success rates, we believe this partnership will greatly benefit both parties.” Razorpay currently works with a number of government agencies and PSUs like the National Pension System, IRCTC, Bharat Kosh, IOCL, and BPCL among others. The UIDAI is a government body like no other, performing a very vital function. Aadhaar is not just an identity document but a tool for governments to ensure the targeted delivery of welfare schemes. The UIDAI tie-up will, therefore, provide a platform for Razorpay to reach the entire Indian population. The Razorpay spokesperson further added, “We as an organization are committed to building a digital payment infrastructure in India with easy-to-use, seamless, and secure payment solutions that will help reach as many businesses and their consumers as possible. Hence, this partnership with UIDAI has not only enabled us to penetrate into a wider and remote audience but also helped us closely become a leading voice in the Government's mission of digitizing India.”
