Stock Market Live Updates: Sensex, Nifty 50 tanks on the first session of this week (File Image)Stock Market News Highlights: Frontline equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 clawed back to turn positive in the last few hours of the session after opening lower on the first trading session of this week.
The Indian stock market opened little changed on Monday (May 13), tracking mixed global cues from the US and Asian markets. Sensex opened 187.82, or 0.27 per cent lower at 72,476.00 while Nifty inched 27.20 points, or 0.12 per cent lower at 22,028.00.
Despite stronger global cues, GIFT Nifty continues to trade with a premium of 50 points. The GIFT Nifty is trading 52.50 points, or 0.24 per cent lower at 22,181.50.
The decline in sectoral indices were led by Auto, PSU Bank, Commodities and Energy indices while Pharma and Healthcare remained the top gainers.
Tata Motors shares declined as much as 9 per cent after posting Q4 results on Friday, wiping out market capitalisation (mcap) by Rs 29,946.88 crore to Rs 3,17,998.73 crore. The company’s stock slid the most since February 2022 on Monday, after falling as much as 9.5 per cent in the earlier session.
In line with frontline indices, broader markets opened in red territory to stage a recovery later. Nifty Midcap 100 settled 203.10 points higher at 49, 735.40 while Nifty Smallcap 100 closed at 68.35 points, or 0.43 per cent lower at 15,985.20.
India VIX, or volatility index, remained elevated with an increase of 2.13 points, or 11.53 per cent higher at 20.60.
The India rupee closed 83.53 against US dollar after starting the week on a flattish note at 83.51. The Indian currency had closed Friday’s session at 83.51. Bloomberg’s dollar index and 10-year treasury yields remain little changed.
Asian markets remain in mixed territory with Japan’s Nikkei trading closing 125 pts down at 38,104.29 while South Korea’s Kospi inched 0.40 per cent lower at 2,716.73. Meanwhile, investors are accessing China’s higher-than-expected April inflation data which stood at 0.3 per cent.

Share Market Today Live Updates: Online food delivery firm Zomato reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 175 crore in the March quarter on the back of higher revenue.
The company had posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 188 crore in the same quarter last fiscal, Zomato Ltd said in a regulatory filing.
Consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 3,562 crore. It was Rs 2,056 crore in the year-ago period.

Share Market Today Live Updates: Tata Motors' market capitalisation (mcap) was wiped out by Rs 29,946.88 crore to Rs 3,17,998.73 crore.
Tata Motors had reported an over three-fold jump in consolidated net profit at Rs 17,528.59 crore in Q4 riding with all its three auto businesses, especially the British arm Jaguar Land Rover.
The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,496.04 crore as compared to a year ago period.
Total consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 1,19,986.31 crore compared to Rs 1,05,932.35 crore year-on-year (YoY).
