From the historic Grand Trunk Road to the nation’s longest highway — Country’s top 10 toll plazas collect Rs 14,000 crore in 5 years
In all, in the top-10 list, two plazas each are from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and one each is from Haryana, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Bihar

A toll plaza on the Grand Trunk Road, another on the National Highway (NH) connecting Delhi to Mumbai, one located on the NH running along the east coast of the country and another on India’s longest highway — these are among the top-10 toll plazas across the country which have collected the highest user fee or toll in the last five years.
According to the data provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in Lok Sabha on March 20, Bharthana, which lies on Vadodara-Bharuch portion of NH-48 in Gujarat, is the highest user fee collecting toll plaza in the country. In the last five financial years (2019-20 to 2023-24), it collected a toll of Rs 2,043.81 crore, with the highest collection of Rs 472.65 crore in 2023-24.
This is followed by Shahjahanpur toll plaza in Rajasthan, which is located on the Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur stretch of NH-48, connecting Delhi to Mumbai. MoRTH data shows that a toll of Rs 1,884.46 crore was collected at the Shahjahanpur toll plaza in the last five years.
The Jaladhulagori fee plaza in West Bengal is in third position, which collected Rs 1,538.91 crore toll during 2019-20 to 2023-24. It lies on the Dhankuni-Kharagpur stretch of NH-16, which runs along the east coast of India and is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project to connect major cities.
Similarly, the Barajore toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh is the fourth highest toll collecting plaza with a collection of Rs 1,480.75 crore in the last five years. Barajore is located on the Etawah-Chakeri (Kanpur) section of NH-19, which also constitutes the major portion of the Grand Trunk Road.
The Gharonda toll plaza, which lies on the Panipat-Jalandhar section of NH-44— India’s longest highway from Srinagar to Kanyakumari — is at the fifth position in terms of total revenue. In the last five years it collected a toll of Rs 1,314.37 crore.
Other fee plazas in the top-10 list are Choryasi on Bharuch-Surat stretch of NH-48 in Gujarat, Thikariya/Jaipur Plaza on Jaipur-Kishangarh section of NH-48 in Rajasthan, L&T Krishnagiri Thopur on Krishnagiri-Thumbipadi section of NH-44 in Tamil Nadu, Nawabganj in Kanpur-Ayodhya section of NH-25 in Uttar Pradesh and Sasaram on Varanasi-Aurangabad stretch of NH-2 in Bihar.

In all, in the top-10 list, two plazas each are from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and one each is from Haryana, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Bihar.
In total, these 10 fee plazas collected a toll of Rs 13,988.51 crore in the last five years, which is over 7 per cent of the total toll collection across the fee plazas in the country. According to the Ministry, a total of Rs 1.93 lakh crore was collected as user fee or toll between 2019-20 to 2023-24 by all toll plazas, with the highest collection of Rs 55,882 crore in 2023-24.

Currently, there are a total of 1,063 user fee plazas or toll plazas across the country, out of which a total of 457 toll plazas were constructed in the last five years.
