Niti Aayog group to submit report on jobs generation

The panel recommended initiating vocational education from middle school and giving flexibility to the states to introduce traditional and local skills suitable to local needs.

The Niti Aayog’s sub-group of chief ministers on skill development would submit its report to Prime Minister Narendra Modi within a fortnight. The report is likely to suggest ways on improving credit and marketing linkages to improve employment generation.

The sub-group presided by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in its final meeting on Tuesday deliberated at length on strengthening the state skill development missions to improve their outreach in a de-centralised manner.

The panel unanimously endorsed the need for overcoming shortage of trainers by involving the industry and national level institutions such as IIT, IIM and universities. “We suggested that appropriate credit and market linkages should be provided for entrepreneurial development to act as force multiplier for employment generation. After incorporating the additional views shared by the member states today the final Report would be submitted to the Prime Minister within a fortnight,” Badal said.
