A bidding war ensued between Kolkata Knight Riders, the team that released him, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the medium-pace- bowling all-rounder. With a batting strike rate of nearly 160 during KKR’s 2024 title-winning campaign, Iyer’s primary skill is strong enough to make him valuable even in the ‘Impact Player’ era.
