Saira Banu: A Legacy in Indian Cinema Saira Banu, born August 23, 1944, stands as a prominent figure in Hindi cinema's golden age. Her career, spanning from 1961 to 1988, cemented her status as one of the most celebrated actresses of the 1960s and 70s. Her debut in Junglee (1961) immediately garnered attention, earning her a Filmfare Best Actress nomination. This was followed by three more nominations for her roles in Shagird, Diwana, and Sagina. Beyond these critically acclaimed performances, Banu starred in numerous commercially successful films, including Bluff Master, Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Padosan, Victoria No. 203, Hera Pheri, and Bairaag. Her final on-screen appearance was in Faisla (1988). While primarily an actress, Banu also ventured into film production with the Bhojpuri film Ab To Banja Sajanwa Hamaar (2006). Banu's personal life saw her marry the legendary actor Dilip Kumar in 1966; the couple remained childless.
