George Harrison: A Quiet Beatle's Enduring Legacy George Harrison, the lead guitarist of the Beatles, transcended his "quiet Beatle" moniker to become a globally renowned musician and songwriter. His influence on popular music is undeniable, marked by the incorporation of Indian instrumentation and ...spirituality into the Beatles' work, starting with the sitar in "Norwegian Wood." His compositions for the Beatles, including "Taxman," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something," and "Here Comes the Sun," remain iconic. Post-Beatles, Harrison's triple album All Things Must Pass showcased his solo artistry, producing the hit "My Sweet Lord" and establishing his signature slide guitar sound. He organized the landmark Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, a pioneering benefit concert. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Dark Horse Records and HandMade Films, producing films like The Life of Brian. Collaborations with artists like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton further cemented his musical prowess. Harrison's achievements extend beyond music. He received two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions - as a Beatle and for his solo career. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him among the greatest guitarists of all time. His life, however, was marked by personal tragedy, including a near-fatal stabbing and a battle with lung cancer which ultimately claimed his life in 2001 at age 58.
