The funeral of late former President A P J Abdul Kalam will be held in Rameswaram, his birth place in Tamil Nadu, on July 30 with full military honours.

Home Ministry sources said Kalam would be given a state funeral and the last rites would be held at 11 AM on Thursday (July 30).

Earlier, President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and the three service chiefs paid homage to the former president at Palam airport at about 12.44 pm on Tuesday.

The mortal remains of the late former President were brought to New Delhi in a special Indian Air Force aircraft at about 12.15 on Tuesday.

At about 12.20 the rotors of the Indian Air Force C-130J stopped at the Palam technical area and his body, wrapped in tri colour was brought out by army, navy and Air Force men dressed in ceremonials.
