Akshay Kumar's Rustom or Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro, what will box office pick as a winner during the Independence Day weekend? That was the big question in the cine circuits and now the audience has spoken. While Rustom is sprinting at over Rs 50 crore collection during opening weekend, Mohenjo Daro has rallied to earn Rs 30 crore in three days. While Mohenjo Daro is a bigger film and Hrithik Roshan's first film in two years, Rustom is Akshay Kumar's third film this year. If it makes to Rs 100-crore club, it will be Akshay's third film to do so in 2016.
Akshay Kumar’s Rustom is reaching new heights with each passing day at the box office. It is inspired by the infamous case of KM Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra and its intriguing storyline is keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Despite the box office clash with director Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro, Rustom managed to rake in the moolah at the box office. It minted Rs. 30.54 crore in just two days of its release. Trade is expecting it to mint Rs 18-20 crore on day 3, which was a Sunday.
Trade analysts have been predicting Rs 100-crore business for this Akshay Kumar-starrer since the movie will be benefitted by Monday also being a holiday due to Independence Day.
It seems that Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro has failed to impress the audience but it rallied on Sunday. Even though the movie has the hit combination of Hrithik and Ashutosh Gowariker, its box-office collections were far from impressive initially. Mohenjo Daro estimated box office collection on day two, Saturday, stood at Rs 9.5 crore and the movie raked in Rs 12.07 crore on day three, which is Sunday. It earned Rs 8.8 crore on Friday.
Mohenjo Daro is set during the Indus Valley civilisation and has been made at a massive cost of Rs 100 crore. In comparison, Rustom's budget is Rs 50 crore.
Rustom made Rs 14.11 crore on Friday and Rs 16.43 crore on Saturday. Akshay Kumar's Airlift and Housefull 3 have already made it to Rs 100 crore club this year.
