Those who think that powerful plot, story, characters and star cast could propel Pink to an initial thunderous response at the box office had it all wrong. For apparently, Raaz Reboot starring Emraan Hashmi, Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora -- which has got mixed reviews from critics -- is doing well in single screens and mass circuits. Indian audience can sometimes be tricky. This clearly reflects in the business done by both the films on Friday. Raaz Reboot collected Rs 6.30 crore which is higher as compared to Shoojit Sircar’s Pink that collected merely Rs 4.32 crore on Friday. Pink starring Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu has got stupendous praise from all corners. Every actor including Piyush Mishra, Angad Bedi have done justice to their roles. Coming days will decide the fate of both films at the box office.
Pink has a clean message that when a woman says 'no', it means 'no'. Many A-listers from Bollywood have remarked that Pink is so far the best film of the year. Amitabh is seen in the role of a grouchy lawyer who goes through mood swings. The film has unabashedly indicted the patriarchal society, misogyny, male entitlement and indifferent attitudes toward women. Pink can be a sleeper hit of this year as the film is already getting a strong word of mouth publicity. On the other hand, people are going for Emraan Hashmi’s negative act in Raaz Reboot. It will be interesting to see how both films perform in coming weeks.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the Raaz Reboot’s box office numbers on Twitter and wrote, “#RaazReboot Fri ₹ 6.30 cr. India biz… Best in single screens/mass circuits [North especially].”
Taran also shared, “#Pink Fri ₹ 4.32 cr. India biz… Strong word of mouth should ensure escalation in biz on Sat and Sun.”
Pink is the second collaboration between director Shoojit Sircar and Amitabh Bachchan. The two have earlier worked in Piku. Shoojit has earlier directed films including Piku, Madras Cafe, Vicky Donor and Yahaan. Pink is directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury.
Emraan Hashmi-starrer Raaz Reboot is another horror film in the Raaz franchise. With Gaurav Arora and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead, it has Emraan Hashmi in an important role. Director Vikram Bhatt has chosen deep, dark forests and other exotic locales in Romania as the setting of this horror film.
