Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu-starrer Pink, which released on September 16, is making the filmmakers of Banjo and Parched feel blue. The film is going strong even a week after its release while this Friday's releases are struggling at the box office. Indian film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and announced Pink's victory march at the BO with a total collection of Rs 53.10 crore this weekend in India and Rs. 13.78 crore in key markets, mainly USA-Canada and UAE-GCC. Banjo managed to collect Rs 5.92 crore while Parched is yet to earn Rs 1 crore.
He tweeted, "#Pink cruises past ₹ 50 cr mark... Is UNSTOPPABLE... [Week 2] Fri 3.15 cr, Sat 5.49 cr, Sun 6.57 cr. Total: ₹ 51.12 cr. India biz" and in another tweet, he mentioned, "#Pink - OVERSEAS: Is STRONG in key markets, mainly USA-Canada and UAE-GCC... Total after Weekend 2: $ 2,068,665 [₹ 13.78 cr]. 👍👍👍" The film, which collected Rs 25.29 crore on its opening weekend is unstoppable with its growth falling heavy on the recent releases including Banjo, Parched and even Raaz Reboot, which released with Pink.
Pink, which focuses on the concept of women's empowerment, seems to be having an upper hand as compared to musical drama Banjo starring Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri in the lead role.
Banjo, directed by director Ravi Jadhav, didn't take a flight of success, as expected, at the box office. The film, which released on September 23, has not been able to impress the audience with its action, acting or music, which is quite evident with its business during its opening weekend. Taran revealed on Twitter that Banjo could only garner Rs. 5.92 crore on its weekend. He posted, "#Banjo is DULL... Fri 1.72 cr, Sat 1.95 cr, Sun 2.25 cr. Total: ₹ 5.92 cr. India biz."
That's not it, the Amitabh Bachchan starrer is giving a good fight to Radhika Apte's Parched as well, which created a huge buzz in the town because of the leaked intimate scenes of Radhika Apte and Adil Hussain.
The story of three women, Radhika, Surveen Chawla and Tannishtha Chatterjee holding their own in a sexist society, received great reviews from film critics but could not make an impact on the audience, also because of its limited release.
While the film could only make Rs 12 lakh at the box office on its first day, it showed a considerable growth on Saturday and Sunday but is nowhere near to its BO competitors, Pink and Banjo. Taran tweeted, "#Parched Fri 12 lacs, Sat 22 lacs, Sun 28 lacs. Total: ₹ 62 lacs. India biz."
Produced by Shoojit Sircar, Pink's game seems to be strong. Now, let's see if Pink sails victoriously through the next weekend as well, which is to witness the release of much-awaited biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story by Neeraj Pandey.
