This week was high on gloss and style, comedy and drama. With Baar Baar Dekho and Freaky Ali clashing at the box office, the big debate was who will win -- will Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra's film that deals with righting past wrongs find favour with the audience or will the honour go to Nawazuddin Siddiqui's rags-to-riches story find favour. As the dust settles after the weekend, here is the big reveal -- both the films have failed at the BO. Audience preferred to stay away from theatres, with Baar Baar Dekho having a slight edge over Freaky Ali.
Baar Baar Dekho came to us after we watched its high-on-energy song Kala Chashma and Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif's promotional spree. The film, however, lacked the one thing that was very much a part of its promotional strategy -- energy. The film opened fine but then saw a slump on Sunday. It first-weekend box office collection is a little over Rs 21 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film, "#BaarBaarDekho Fri 6.81 cr, Sat 7.65 cr, Sun 6.70 cr. Total: ₹ 21.16 cr. India biz."
Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Freaky Ali was made at a modest budget. With a 'freaky' storyline of a undergarments seller becoming a successful golf player, it had the support of Salman Khan himself. Only, that didn't work and the film got hardly any love from the day of its release.
Taran tweeted about Freaky Ali, "#FreakyAli Fri 2.55 cr, Sat 2.85 cr, Sun 3.10 cr. Total: ₹ 8.50 cr. India biz."
Baar Baar Dekho has become the third dud starring Katrina Kaif. However, the actress has Jagga Jasoos lined up with Ranbir Kapoor and we are hoping for the best.
While Freaky Ali failed to impress, Nawazuddin Siddiqui's performance was highly appreciated.
