Chinese company, Xiaomi, which is known for its consumer electronics like smartphones, home appliances might be ready to unveil its first automobile under its sub-brand Mijia (also known as Mi Ecosystem). Mijia at an event on December 12 is expected to unveil the company’s first electric car or bike; as hinted in its poster that was shared on Chinese social networking website, Weibo.
The released poster has skid marks in the background, and the text says that the product will have E-ABS (anti-lock breaking system). The vehicle will also have regenerative breaking (signifying some form of electrical propulsion), cruise control, and perforated disk brakes.
Back in June, Mijia had introduced the QiCycle in China, the company’s first folding electric cycle that has an IPX5 water resistant body and is priced at Yuan 2,999 (approx Rs 30,000). Considering that features like ABS and cruise control don’t usually feature on cycles, it is safe to say that the new vehicle might not be one.
Xiaomi was formed back in 2010, with its first product in the market being the Mi1 smartphone in 2011 running the Android based MIUI OS. The company has since expanded to making a range of other products like air purifiers, laptops, smart TV, powerbanks, fitness trackers and more.
In India, Xiaomi was ranked as the third largest smartphone vendor across 30 cities in Q2 of 2016 according to IDC. Samsung held the first spot with 28.5 per cent market share; Micromax at number two with 11.9 per cent and Xiaomi stood three at 8.1 per cent.
