Pune girl creates record in open sea water scuba diving

Khushi Parmar's record has been registered in the prestigious Asia Book of Records, India Book of Records, Unique World Records and Indian Achievers list.

Ever since she was a toddler, she was in love with water. On Wednesday, 13-year-old Khushi Parmar has embarked upon a journey through which she aims to make a career that revolves around water. Khushi has successfully leveled the Asian Record in open sea water scuba diving competition held in Goa recently. Her record has been registered in the prestigious Asia Book of Records, India Book of Records, Unique World Records and Indian Achievers list.

The competition was held to propagate the campaign titled ‘Girls are Fearless’. Khushi dived for two hours and one minute continuously and became youngest diver in the Asian subcontinent to create this record. Altogether, she dived for 11 hours and 31 minutes in nine dives in open sea between April 18-23. Venkat Charlo, Khushi’s trainer at Barracuda International Diving Goa, guided her for the world record.

The proud father of this teenager, Ajit Parmar, who is a businessman by profession, says, “Khushi has been learning swimming since she was five and aspires to make a career in the merchant navy. She has been practicing swimming at Tilak Tank under the guidance of her coach, Prabhir Roy, and practices for two hours.”

He added that in the past too, Khushi, who is currently studying in Mount Carmel High School, has set several exemplary records of swimming for hours, breaking tubelights while driving a motorbike and so on.

For instance, in 2014, she managed to find a place in the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records for being the youngest to swim continuously for 6 hours, 32 minutes and 10 seconds, thereby breaking the previous record of Cambodia’s Tian Jo Howan who swam for 4 hours 35 minutes.
