Siblings attacked in alleged act of moral policing in Kerala

The gang suspected the siblings to be lovers from different communities and attacked them.

In another act of moral policing, a higher secondary student and her brother in Kozhikode were attacked by a gang, which suspected the siblings as lovers from different communities.

Police said a four-member gang waited near a higher secondary school at Mukkam in Kozhikode on Friday evening when the girl was returning after her class hours. Her elder brother had come to the school premises to pick his sister, who was attending a special tuition in the school in connection with annual examination. The gang had earlier noticed the brother picking up his sister from the school premises in the late evening.

Police said the gang attacked the youth with sticks.

Two years back, a youth was killed in the attack of moral policing at the same village, Mukkom in Kozhikode. The youth was lured to a woman’s house in the night. The auto driver who dropped him in the house, alerted the gang. On his return from the house, he was brutally tortured by the gang. Later, he died in a hospital. Last year, a court had sentenced the accused to life term.
