Satish Verma loses out in promotions

The 1986 batch officers who will now be ADGPs are Vinod Kumar Mall, E Radhakrishnaiah and Satish Sharma.

The Gujarat government Tuesday promoted IPS officers of the 1986 batch, which was long due, and a couple of officers from the 1987 batch to the rank of additional DGP. Those promoted from the 1986 batch, however, did not include Satish Verma who had investigated the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

From the 1987 batch, the government promoted A K Sharma. He will continue to head the crime branch as special commissioner, given that the Ahmedabad police chief Shivanand Jha, to which the detection of crime branch reports, is also an ADGP.

Sharma is said to be a confidant of BJP chief Amit Shah and had shared the stage with him at a community event, during the Chhath puja last year. The other 1987 officer to become ADGP is Sanjay Shrivastava.

The officers who were not promoted are K K Ojha, P B Gondia and C R Parmar. The 1986 batch officers who will now be ADGPs are Vinod Kumar Mall, E Radhakrishnaiah and Satish Sharma.
