“Yeh to suit boot ki sarkar hai. Chalo, suit ki baat khatam ho gayi hai. You auctioned it. I will not speak about it now. Happy?”
“I would like to offer advice to your PM. If you hurt the interests of 67% of the population, who depend on farming, it will hurt you politically. If he understands political calculations (BJP vote share was 33%) why is he making the 67% angry? I thought he was a pragmatic man”
“I would like to praise Mr Gadkari, who is not here. I would like to praise him because he is the one minister who speaks his heart and tells the truth. He said that farmers should trust neither God nor the government. It’s a good thing that he spoke from his heart.”
“Agricultural experts said 180 lakh hectares was affected leading to a loss of Rs 40,000 crore. But the PM said the experts were wrong and the correct figure was 106 lakh hectares. After that the Agriculture Ministry said the PM was wrong and that only 80 lakh hectares was affected… This is the BJP’s style. They say something here, something there and something somewhere else and then they claim all of them are saying the same thing.”
Rahul vs Naidu
Rahul: Let me give the PM advice. Why doesn’t he go and see for himself how much damage the farmers are facing?
Naidu: You only see one person. The fact is, the PM had called the home minister, the rural development minister, the agriculture minister, myself and others to go to states, which we did.
Opposition: Where was our PM then?
Naidu: Your PM lost, so he is sitting at home.
Rahul: Mr (M S) Swaminathan has said, the future will belong to nations with grains, not guns. You talk about defence, about missiles and fighter planes, but you forget the 60 per cent people of this country. When I asked myself, why is this happening; I got only one answer. The cost of the farmers’ land is rising fast, and that your corporate friends want to usurp them… That is why you are ignoring the 60 per cent.”
Naidu: Government will seriously consider recommendations of Swaminathan panel on agriculture.
Sonia speak
“I did not hear the full speech by Rahul as I was busy meeting party leaders and farmers at my home. But I was told by people it was good.”
